DoD Corrosion Policy and Oversight Forum Convenes at the NACE Conference & Expo in New Orleans

CORROSION 2008The DoD Corrosion Policy and Oversight community can look forward to convening again this spring at the annual NACE International Conference & Expo, also known as CORROSION 2008.

Members of the DoD-sponsored Corrosion Prevention Integrated Product Team are invited to attend the next quarterly DoD Forum at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, from Monday, March 17, until Wednesday, March 19. The final Forum agenda and breakout sessions for Working Integrated Product Team (WIPT) members will be distributed in early March by the DoD Corrosion Office.

The opening session of the Corrosion Forum will be on Monday morning and the closing session will take place on Wednesday afternoon. The Forum schedule is shorter than the NACE Conference & Expo schedule, so that those who are attending only the DoD Forum sessions can save a day or two of time and travel costs. Please note the following items of interest:

  • Those personnel who will not be attending the NACE Conference DO NOT have to pay the conference fee. All of the DoD sessions (general sessions and WIPT break-outs) will be held in the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, the headquarters hotel.
  • Those of you who are NACE Platinum members can register for the NACE Expo at no cost.
  • As of now, all of the WIPTs will have breakout sessions except the Outreach and Communications WIPT. The Facilities WIPT will meet on Monday afternoon. The Policy, Training and MIS WIPTs are currently scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. The remaining SSQP and S&T WIPTS have not been scheduled yet.

CORROSION 2008 is expected to attract more than 5,000 professionals from the corrosion science and engineering industry. The conference will feature two special meetings titled And They All Come Tumbling Down: Anatomy of Bridge Failure and Front Page Issues: Fueling the Future, along with an International Marine Coatings Forum, a Nuclear Coating Inspector Forum, special Bridge Painting sessions, innovative technical symposia, and international networking opportunities.

Lou Vincent, president of NACE International, notes: "Due to popular demand, NACE is bringing back many of the favorite features introduced in 2007, including a forum on Corrosion & Punishment, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a CORROSION 2008 Information Kiosk located front and center in New Orleans’ Ernest N. Morial Convention Center."

"Beyond the networking and learning opportunities, CORROSION 2008 promises new insights into the world’s ever-changing demands for more effective corrosion control," Vincent said. "Hear the causes behind increased corrosion costs, the shortfalls in mature corrosion control methods, and the challenges of adopting new ones."
