- Army Corps of Engineers Tests Fire-Protective Coating at Rock Island Arsenal
While searching for a place to test an innovative fire-protective coating technology in 2005, the Army Corps of Engineers considered Rock Island Arsenal’s array of old and new mission-critical structures and its importance as an Army equipment producer. Fire protection is a concern at the installation’s maintenance facilities. Using approximately $887,000 provided to the Army Corps of Engineers by the DoD Corrosion Office and the Army’s Installation Management Command, facilities experts are testing a new coating on two buildings at Rock Island Arsenal. - Army Maximizes Hawaii’s Natural Resources to Simulate Corrosive Environments
Since 2003 the Army has worked to develop correlations between climates and the corrosivity of various materials used on military equipment and vehicles. The program is based on a cost-effective approach to evaluating the corrosion performance of materials in many climates found in the Pacific Theater. This approach takes advantage of the natural wonders of the Hawaiian Islands, as well as the research facilities at the University of Hawaii. (Read More...)
- DoD Corrosion Officials Visit European Counterparts
DoD officials and their European counterparts are learning how each side can expand their mutual interest in corrosion prevention projects. In September 2007, DoD officials and members of the Navy and Army visited European military offices in London and Wiltshire, England; Erding, Germany; Paris, France; and Naples, Italy. - Young Nominated to be Under Secretary of Defense for A, T, & L

Young, Jr. was nominated to be the DoD’s new Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics (USD [A,T, & L]), a post that includes the responsibilities of the DoD Corrosion Executive in charge of the DoD Corrosion and Policy Oversight initiative. - DoD Releases Landmark Cost of Corrosion Study
The DoD Office of Corrosion Policy and Oversight has released three new reports as part of the second phase of a broad-based, landmark study on the cost of corrosion for all military equipment and infrastructure. The new reports estimate the cost of corrosion for DoD facilities and infrastructure, Army aviation and missile equipment, and Marine Corps ground vehicles.(Read More...)
